Remote Management
As cable operators and broadband organizations deploy next-generation set-top box systems, it becomes critical to be able to remotely manage and administer these systems. Remote management comes in two major types: directed control of a specific system and general, system-wide updates and management. There also needs to be a set of menus that allow a technician or in-home service representative the ability to update and change the STB serialization and unqiue identifiers.
This iSET component provides a number of remote administration tools, including the ability to enable/disable any specific system; the ability to enable/disable pay-per-view services or lock-out channels on any specific system; the ability of the STB to request the current electronic program guide database; the ability to read/write the STB serialization; the ability of the STB to request and install firmware or software updates; and other remote management features.
