Chapter 4. Using the Handwriting Recognition Utility

The handwriting recognition utility enables you to enter data by drawing character shapes on your screen. The handwriting recognition utility has three drawing areas and a set of tool buttons.

The three drawing areas enable you to enter capital letters, lowercase letters, and numbers. In the numbers field, you also enter the symbols for punctuation, after setting punctuation mode.

When you draw a character the handwriting recognition utility recognizes, the utility displays that character in the upper left corner of the drawing area and sends that character to the current application on the screen. It the utility does not recognize the character you have drawn, it displays the message "error" in the corner of the drawing area.

The right column of the handwriting recognition utility provides several useful buttons for frequently used keys.

This button

Performs this function

Switches the number drawing area to the punctuation drawing area.

Switches the punctuation drawing area back to the number drawing area.

Types an <Enter> character.

Types a <Tab> character.

Types a <Backspace> and erases the previously typed or drawn character.
